Un registro de tapir de montaña (Tapirus pinchaque) en el norte de la Cordillera Occidental de Colombia

Tapirus pinchaque se encuentra en los Andes de Colombia, Ecuador y Perú. En Colombia, esta especie se distribuye en el Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados (Cordillera Central) hacia el sur y en el Páramo de Sumapaz (Cordillera Oriental) también hacia el sur. Hasta el momento no se tenía ningún registro directo en los Andes Occidentales. En esta nota se presenta un registro con base en un espécimen de museo que confirmaría, al menos históricamente, la presencia de T. pinchaque en los Andes occidentales de Colombia.

A record of the mountain tapir (Tapirus pinchaque) in the Northern portion of the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia. Tapirus pinchaque is found in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. In Colombia, this species is distributed in the Central Andes from Los Nevados National Natural Park southward and in the Eastern Andes from the Paramo of Sumapaz southward. Although undocumented published reports of the species exist for the Western Andes, until now there have been no direct registers in this part of the Andes. This note presents a record based on a museum specimen that historically confirms the presence of T. pinchaque in the Western Andes of Colombia.

Nuevos registros de distribución y oferta de hábitat de la danta colombiana (Tapirus terrestris colombianus) en las tierras bajas del norte de la Cordillera Central (Colombia)

En este estudio se determinan algunos aspectos de distribución y disponibilidad de hábitat para la subespecie Tapirus terrestris colombianus en el noreste de Antioquia, ubicado en las tierras bajas del norte de la Cordillera Central en Colombia. Los resultados confirman la presencia de la subespecie en 20 nuevas localidades. La disponibilidad de hábitat fue estimada al ubicar los registros en imágenes de cobertura vegetal, siendo el bosque primario la vegetación predominante en esta área, seguido por rastrojo.

New distribution records and habitat availability of the Colombian danta (Tapirus terrestris colombianus) in the low lands of the northern Central Mountain Chain (Colombia). The aim of this study was to determine some aspects of the distribution and habitat availability for the subspecies Tapirus terrestris colombianus in the low lands of the northern Central Mountain Chain in Colombia, which is known as the Antioquian Northeast. The results confirm the presence of this subspecies in 20 new recording localities. The habitat availability was estimated by locating the records on images of vegetation covertures, being primary forest the predominant vegetation followed by bushland.
